Silent Films: Small Group and Whole Group Projects

SMALL GROUP Students learned about the history of film, the process of storyboarding, and the skill of telling a story effectively through only moving images, text, and music. We viewed excerpts from a Charlie Chaplin film (The Kid) for our exemplary model, identifying the elements used to tell the story (moving images, text, expressiveness, gestures). Next, it was off to develop a silent film of our own! Click on the images below to view the storyboard from one of the eighth grade film groups. WHOLE GROUP The silent film below was developed, filmed, and edited during one class period! The seventh grade group in the film recalled vocabulary and themes from our Stereotypes and Biases unit, and "borrowed" the fight scene from Chaplin's The Kid. Take a look...
